The system's stratigraphy consists of a network of heating pipes, generally made of polyethylene, placed and secured onto smooth or shaped thermal insulation panels laid onto the floor slab, which are covered by a screed onto which the floor is then created. The insulation panel used often features thermal insulation only, providing almost zero acoustic insulation against foot traffic noise. The screed, in order to be capable of expanding due to heat action, is isolated from the wall with strips of compressible material (polyethylene foam) with a procedure similar to the one used in acoustically insulated “floating floors”. As a result, the acoustic insulation technology with FONOSTOPDuo combines perfectly with the underfloor heating system. FONOSTOPDuo is already widely used also under thermal insulation panels made of expanded material, onto which the traditional heating system is placed. FONOSTOPDuo is compatible with the floor heating system and is laid before the thermal insulation. As already provided for by this heating technology, the expansion of the floor is absorbed on the perimeter by FONOCELL, which is installed with an overlap onto the walls.
